NGOs can function as catalysts to support the Government's efforts in tackling the drug problem in their respective communities. Since its inception of the IFNGO, the Colombo Plan DAP has been supporting the IFNGO conferences that were held once in two years. In this year's IFNGO conference with the theme: "Maximising the potential of the youth in drug demand reduction", it is hoped that about 300 participants from all over the world will participate in the conference. Since the conference is organised in conjunction with the "Kandy Perahera', which will be a pre-conference event, it is also hoped that the participants would take this opportunity to visit the tourist sites in Sri Lanka. The Colombo Plan Drug Advisory programme, which has been in the forefront in efforts to combat the drug menace in the region will sponsor about 100 participants, majority from abroad to this 20th IFNGO conference and will provide a sum of nearly two million Sri Lankan Rupees to Sri Lanka FONGOADA for its local administrative support in the conference. |
