Kalutara Bodhi Premises is a natural sacred place to perform religious activities. It is not meant only for Kalutara district alone but also for the entire Buddhist society, said Ven. Bellana Gnanawimala Maha Nayake Thera of Kotte Chapter. He was addressing at a function of the Bodhi Maga Foundation organised by the Kalutara Sasanarakshaka Mandalaya. A series of Vesak pinkama was held at Kalutara Bodhi premises. The Bodhi Maga Foundation has printed Dhammapadaya in braille system and distributed among the blind persons. Further, the Mahanayake Thera said the late Sir Cyril de Zoysa had not only founded the Buddhist Centre, but also had carried out various religious work in and around Kalutara, he said. The Mahanayake Gnanawimala thera appreciated the good work of the Kalutara Bodhi Trust and he said that it had to fulfil more and more religious work for the future generation, he said. Ven. Marapana Vijitha Thera, Sanghanayake of Kalutara district said that Sir Cyril Zoysa came to Kalutara in 1924 as a young lawyer and started his career at Kalutara Bar. He visited the Kalutara Bodhi daily after his work. Later on, he persuaded the devotees who came to worship at the Bodhi to form a society for its protection and maintenance of which he became the chief patron. Similarly, he continued his religious work until his death, Nayake Thera said. The Sasanarakshaka Mandalaya Chairman Ven. Gonaduwe Gunananda Thera, Bodhi Maga Foundation Chairman Professor Wimal Gunewardana and Secretary Mrs. Chitra Mendis also spoke. |
