Three Lankans injured in Saudi explosion

Three Sri Lankans were injured in the bomb explosion which rocked Riyadh on Monday. According to official sources from the Saudi government 29 were killed and 179 people were injured during the three suicide car bombings which took place simultaneously in three western compounds.

Among the dead were, Americans, Saudi, Jordanians, Swiss, Filipinos and the nine suicide bombers. The son of the Under Secretary of the Riyadh governorate, Mohammed Abdullah Al Bulehid also died in the blast.

Among the injured Sri Lankans were, Somalatha who was working for a family in a compound, Mrs. Zeeniyah Rizvie Hannan and another Sri Lankan caretaker who was popularly known as "Tuan". They were given medical treatment and were sent home six hours after admission to the hospital. Speaking to the Daily News Zeeniyah said that the explosion took place at 11.20 p.m. on Monday while she was waiting at home for her husband who was to return after work at 11.30 p.m.

The Sri Lankan embassy here sprang into action as the news of the blasts were heard, a team of embassy officials visited the six hospitals in search of the injured Sri Lankans. The hospitals included the National Guard Hospital, the Dallah Hospital, Kingdom, Al Meshari, University Hospital and the Saudi German Hospital.
