Mahamaya and AIS swimming champions

Mahamaya Girls College, Kandy and Asian International School became women's and men's swimming champions respectively at the fourth Short Course National Championships 2003 organised by National Amateur Aquatic Sports Union of Sri Lanka (NAASU) and held at Hillwood College swimming pool in Kandy over the weekend.

A total of 32 events were worked off at this two-day meet which was a resounding success in which over 700 swimmers from girls and boys schools and men and women from clubs and the forces participated. Nearly fifteen records were lowered at this meet.

Mihiri Kandanarachchi of Mahamaya Girls College who swam in the 200 metres breast stroke, 200 metre individual medley, 100 metre breast stroke, 200 metre butterfly and the relays and set up new marks was adjudged the 'Best Women Swimmer of the Meet.; The same award in the mens category went to Conrad Francis of St. Josephs Swimming Club and he participated in the mens 100 metre breast stroke, 50 metre butterfly, 50 metre breast stroke, 100 metre individual medley, 100 metre butterfly, and the relays and he too set up new marks.
