Rs. 25 million to purchase paddy in Mannar

The Government has allocated Rs. 25 million to purchase paddy from the farmers in Mannar District.

The Government Agent will disburse this money to multi-purpose co-operative societies and farmer welfare associations for purchasing paddy from farmers of the district.

Paddy cultivation was undertaken on 28,000 acres in Mannar District this season, yielding a harvest of 48,000 metric tons.

The farmers were unable to get a good price for their paddy and brought this to the notice of the Government Agent and the Minister Assisting Wanni rehabilitation. They discussed this with the Finance Minister, who ordered the Treasury to allocate the sum of Rs. 25 million for the purchase of paddy from the farmers, a press release from the Government Spokesman said.
