by Sarath Malalasekera The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probing the massive fraud at the Central Province Education Ministry will question 4000 school teachers attached to the Central Province Education Ministry next week. A special CID team had been deployed for this purpose, the investigators said. Earlier several advisors to the Education Ministry were questioned and their statements recorded in connection with the fraud. The CID also recovered several vital documents from the office of the Deputy Director (Commerce) Ananda Munasinghe. Earlier the Deputy Director surrendered to the CID and later produced before the Kandy Magistrate and Additional District Judge Leon Seneviratne. The CID also arrested N. Weerasinghe, an accountant of the ministry. Officials who recorded a lengthy statement from Deputy Director Munasinghe revealed that a group of ministry officials were also involved in the massive racket. The CID DIG Lionel Gunatileke has assigned a special CID team to conduct investigations into the racket will also question several senior employees of the Central Province Education Ministry. |
