News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Anura blasts newspapers, Sunday Times spared PA MP Anura Bandaranaike on Thursday while offering a bouquet to the Sunday Times its publisher and senior editors blasted other newspapers and certain selected journalists " for hiding the truth from the people about the current peace process". Bandaranaike singled out the Sunday Times as the only newspaper which had the guts to expose the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission and its activities. He was full of praise for Ranjith Wijewardene its publisher for his impartial stance despite being the uncle of the Prime Minister.. He identified Sunday Times Editor Sinha Ratnatunga and its Defence Correspondent Iqbal Athas as the country's true journalists who dared defy the Prime Minister's media unit headed by a 'Hetti'. Bandaranaike also called Thushara Gunaratne of Lankadeepa the sister paper of Sunday Times - "that rascal who was giving instructions to other newspapers" while also castigating it for failing to report the "LTTE Navy" issue. The Gampaha District Parliamentarian also spewed venom at Lasantha Wickremetunge calling him a despicable editor and the Sunday Leader which he edits a third rate rag sheet. Bandaranaike also let fly at Sunday Leader journalist Fredrica Jansz accusing her for publishing articles which endangered the country's security. Winding up the debate for the Opposition on the Prime Minister's statement on the current peace process in Parliament, Bandaranaike also did not spare ITN Chairman Gyrika Perusinghe. "These people are trying to control the media and prevent the people from knowing the truth" he charged. |
