One-day triangular for Bank Alfalah Cup

Bank Alfalah, one of Pakistan's top financial institutions, will sponsor the triangular one-day international series to be telecast live on TEN Sports featuring Pakistan, New Zealand and hosts Sri Lanka from May 10, 2003.

Parvez Shahid, Executive in Charge, Bank Alfalah said: "We are very happy to have this opportunity to support Pakistan cricket. We believe our bank with this sponsorship and other similar initiatives will encourage excellence in the Pakistan cricket team and groom many more outstanding cricketers, who will take this country to the top of international cricket."

The tournament features seven one dayers. All matches will be telecast live from 9 a.m. PST, while the final, a day-night match, will start at 1.30 p.m. PST on TEN Sports. The Bank Alfalah Cup has an outstanding line up of commentators including Ramiz Raja, Sanjay Manjrekar, Mike Haysman, Dav Whatmore, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, Ranjit Fernando and Jeremy Coney: The event is being broadcast throughout America, UK, Europe, New Zealand and Asia.

Chris McDonald, CEO Taj Television said: "We are very happy to be associated with a premium Pakistan brand like Bank Alfalah and hope to continue to work closely with them on future cricket projects. TEN Sports has firmly established itself as Pakistan's top sports channel, bringing superior coverage of all the best cricketing events to viewers throughout the country.

We recently telecast the ICC cricket World Cup and the Sharjah Cup. We have almost 100 days of live cricket during the rest of the calendar year featuring Pakistan against the best teams in the world, most of which airs prime-time in Pakistan." Ramiz Raja, CEO Pakistan Cricket Board said: "This is a great opportunity for Pakistan cricket to groom a new winning team by participating in this Bank Alfalah Cup against two of the best teams in the world.

The Sri Lankans are very strong at home and will come in to the tournament after a two test home series against the New Zealanders. The Sri Lankans are also building a new team after the World Cup, they have a new captain in Marvan Attapattu replacing Sanath Jayasuriya.

However Sanath - rated one of the best batsmen in the world - will still be in the Sri Lankan line up, along with perhaps the world's finest spinner Muttiah Muralitharan and Chaminda Vaas, one of the best fast bowlers in world cricket.

The New Zealanders have had an outstanding year - beating the Indians at home and cementing their place amongst the top teams in world cricket. Captain Stephen Fleming is now recognised as one of the smartest tacticians in the game and in Shane Bond they have one of the most exciting fast bowling talents to emerge for many years. All in all it promises to be an exciting tournament."

TEN Sports programme line up includes a fantastic line up of cricket. The channel telecasts all the international matches from Pakistan and Sri Lanka, as well as triangulars from Sharjah and Morocco.

The channel recently won exclusive worldwide broadcast rights for all Pakistan cricket through 2008. Pakistan will host India, South Africa, Australia, England, Sri Lanka and the West Indies, among others, over the 6-year period.
