Susanthika eighth in IAAF World rankings by Dinesh Weerawansa Olympic medallist, Susanthika Jayasinghe is placed eighth in the latest women's 100m IAAF World rankings issued in Monaco. Jayasinghe, who won women's 200 bronze medal at the 2002 Sydney Games, has not found a place in the 200m top list as she has not taken part in this event for some time. Jayasinghe, who bagged 100m gold at last year's Asian Games in Busan, pulled out of the 200m due to a hamstring injury. Heading the 100m world rankings is American triple Olympic gold medallist, Marion Jones (1,392 points), who is having a break at present due to pregnancy. In the second place is Zhanna Pintusevich-Block (Ukrine - 1,342), Tayna Lawrance (Jamaica - 1,337), Chryste Gaines (USA - 1,322), Debbie Ferguson (Bahamas - 1,304), Muriel Hurtis (France - 1,301), Torri Edwards (USA - 1,284), Susanthika Jayasinghe (Sri lanka (1,265), Chandra Sturrup (Bahamas - 1,265) and Mercy Nku (Nigeria - 1,259). Meanwhile, Asian Games gold medallist, Damayanthi Darsha has advanced to the 42nd place in the latest IAAF World rankings for women's 400m. Darsha, a triple gold medallists in Asian Games, has gained 1,161 performance points to secure a place within the top fifty women sprinters in the world for her pet event. Heading the top honours list for women's 400m in the IAAF World rankings is Mexican Ana Gabriela Guevara with 1,393 points. In the second place is Jamaican Lorraine Graham-Fenton with 1,347 points, followed by American Jearl Miles-Clark (1,313). Darsha is looking forward to win a medal at the forthcoming IAAF World Championships in Paris in August, in which fellow countrywoman Susanthika Jayasinghe targeting her second successive medal. |
