The year 2003 inter club 'A' Division rugby tournament for the Caltex Trophy will be heralded by the Kandy Youths Sports Club - Sri Lanka Army Sports Club match which will be played at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium today (Friday - April 25th) commencing at 5.15 p.m.

Kandy Youths who will be playing for the third year in the 'A' Division is having the support of Mobitel through the proceeds of an inter club rugby sevens played at Nittawela recently.

This tournament was organised through a generous sponsorship by Mobitel with its Chairman Thilanga Sumathipala playing a major role to promote rugby in the hill capital.

In fact this early rugby tournament for the Mobitel trophy organised by the Kandy Sports Club and Kandy Youths Sports Club helped the clubs and players to immerse themselves in rugby two months ahead of the season.

The President of the Kandy Youths Janaka Pathirana said that they will field a very young side and will be captained by third row forward Duminda Pullikuttiarachchi. Their accent will be on the youth. They will be fielding the same side for the next few years to enable them to blend into a fighting outfit. Further there are a large number of rugby players who have played rugby and left school and they must be given an opportunity to further their rugby talent, perhaps also help them to obtain employment.

Thus we will be helping these schoolboy rugby players to develop their rugby career, having devoted their school life in playing rugby which may have affected their studies in some way.

This position by Kandy Youths is laudable as ruggerities should be helped out without allowing their talent to go waste and die off.
