Record price for Uda Radella tea

Kandy South group correspondent

The Uda Radella Estate in Nanu Oya established a new all time record price for a Western High Grown Broken Orange Pekoe Fannings (BOPF) when a flavoury invoice of this grade of tea obtained the top price of Rs. 330/- per kilogramme at the tea auctions held on April 9.

The buyer of this line of tea at the record price was Stassen Exports Limited through the brokers of this estate Eastern Brokers Limited. Uda Radella Estate is owned by Kelani Valley Plantations and managed by Dipped Products Limited (DPL) - a member of the Hayleys Group of Companies.

Tea Brokers, Forbes & Walkers Limited said that there was improved widespread demand for most varieties of tea. The improved demand and consequently the appreciation of prices were mostly significant for Low Grown teas, which they attributed to a combination of more demand from Iran in particular and the Middle East region.
