Four new records at Mahagastota

Four records were lowered at the Mahagastota Hill Climb last Saturday by drivers, organised by the Ceylon Motor Sports Club.

Rohan de Silva returned the fastest time on a four wheeler driving his Ford Formula clocking 38.08 without any competition, as the only competitor veteran Suranjith Premadasa had to pull out from the race with engine problem.

The other records that tumbled on this day was by Dhammika Pieris who lowered his own timing for Group A cars 12-14 kg driving a Ford Laser clocking 43.48.

Dhammika drove a Honda Civic again in Group A 10-12 kg clocked 42.42 secs for his second record. This record was held by Simon Lourensz.

Sheran Fernando who was behind a brand new Citroen Saxo also the first in Sri Lanka was responsible in lowering the third record by timing 41.28 in Group A 8-10 kg, this too was under the belt of Simon.

It was veteran driver Bri Ponnambalam who stole the limelight in Group A cars event for 6-8 kg setting up a new course record finishing it in only 40-44 secs. He drove a Honda Civic V-Tec for Mobil Auto Colour racing team.

On two-wheelers it was young Sarfraz Junaid who took honours by clocking the fastest time for the day returning a time of 38.98 secs for the 125-250 cc event riding a Honda Caltex 250 cc. Junaid made it a double when he won the open event for bikes riding his Honda Caltex 600 riding in the 350 and over open event.

The others who did well on two-wheelers were Indika Gurusinghe, W. M. Dhammika and Shane de Silva.

Super Cars event over 1665 cc saw Nishan Weerasooriya get the better of young Aravinda Premadasa to take the top slot in this event. Both these drivers were behind the wheels of Subaru Impressa.

Darin Weerasinghe, Rajitha Cooke and Rizvie Farouk won their events comfortably in different categories.

Dinesh Jayawardena drove has Toyota Starlet in great style to claim the Group M&S cars over 1050 cc and upto 1350 cc class, pushing Rameez Mahamoor (Suzuki Caltus) to second place finishing in 41.62 secs.
