Tilina President for sixth year Former Dharmaraja College BRC, Kandy CC and Old Rajans CC cricketer Tilina Tennakoon was unanimously elected for the sixth successive year as the President of the Kandy District Cricket Association at the Annual General Meeting held at the Mahaweli Reach Hotel, Katugastota. Tennakoon who was one time Provincial Minister of Sports and presently Kandy District Parliamentarian has along with the Honorary Secretary Janaka Pathirana has done a good job over the years to promote and developed cricket in the city as well as in the lesser known areas by donating cricket materials, concrete wickets, and conducting tournaments for clubs and schools especially in the junior grades so that the nursery is not neglected. Janaka Pathirana was re-elected as the Secretary for the fifth successive year without a contest. The other officials elected for the year 2003 were: Patrons: Mayor of Kandy, Principal, Trinity College, The vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Deputy Inspector General of Kandy (all ex - officio) and Thilanga Sumathipala. President: Tilina Tennakoon MP. (uncontested) Vice Presidents: Ananda Jayasundera, Dr. R. Mahendra, Asoka Munaweera, K.B. Weerasekera and Deva Amunugama. (all uncontested). Honorary Secretary: Janaka Pathirana (uncontested). Tournament Committee: Dickie Dunuwille (Chairman), Mohammed Zarook, Tissa Jayasinghe, S.M. Jiffrey Abdeen, Gamini Rajapakse, Pulasthi Amerasinghe and Suresh Peiris (all uncontested). |
