Major honours for Peterites

St. Peter's College took the major honours at the Astra junior cricket awards ceremony 2002 organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association (SLSCA) and held at Ananda College on Wednesday.

The Peterites apart from winning the under 17 division one title and the under 15 division one championship also clinched two special individual awards through Prabudda Perera and Gihan de Silva. The former was named as the most outstanding cricketer in the under 15 category scoring over 700 runs with an average of 117.00.

Prabudda Perera had the honour of completing twin hundreds in the match against Bandaranayake MV Gampaha and reached the three figure mark in the second innings in just 36 deliveries. In addition he also compiled three other centuries against De Mazenod College Kandana (106), St. Aloysius College Galle (100) and Dharmasoka College (137).

Gihan de Silva dominated the under 17 tournament and was named most outstanding cricketer with a total of 535 runs. He scored centuries against S. Thomas' College Mount Lavinia (123) and Maris Stella College Negombo (117) and compiled twin fifties against President's College (62 and 80), Ananda (56) and St. Sebastian's College (62) giving him an average of 76.00.

Meanwhile Nalandian Ashan Priyanjan was selected as the most outstanding cricketer in the under 13 tournament. He scored one century against Joseph Vaz College Wennappuwa (116) and two half centuries against Kalutara MV and Ananda College.

Ananda College also had a successful season where they emerged runners up in the under 17 division one tournament and also won the under 17 division two title pushing Royal 'B' into the runners up place. The under 17 division three title was won by Tissa MMV Kalutara.

St. Peter's took the under 15 division one title with Prince of Wales College as the runners up. Asoka MV won the under 15 division two title and Royal Panadura were the runners up. Gamini Central Bentota won the under 15 division three title and St. Sebastian's Katuneriya were the runners up. Sri Dharmaloka National School Kelaniya won the under 15 division four tournament with Embilipitiya National School as the runners up.

The Anandians clinched the under 13 division one tournament with St. Peter's College as the runners up. Royal took the under 13 division two tournament and Wesley emerged runners up. Piliyandala Central and Basilica College Ragama emerged champions and runner up respectively in the under 13 division three tournament. In the under 13 division four tournament Mawathagama Central emerged champions and Wadduwa Central were the runners up.
