The first two-storied apartment housing scheme constructed in the estates will be inaugurated on April 12 at Dickoya Wanaraja Estate. Two hundred apartment houses were constructed by the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA). Each new housing unit comprises a living room, a kitchen, attached bath room and toilet on the ground floor linked by individual staircase to two bedrooms on the upper floor with a total floor area of 560 square feet. These apartment housing blocks are constructed at the same spot an area earlier covered by line rooms where the workers living with their families within a decade. This housing project is being implemented by the NHDA with the assistance of Estate Housing Co-operative Society. The cost of each housing unit is estimated to be around Rs. 300,000. The Co-operative Society will recover the instalments of the workers and repay to NHDA. Each of these housing units comprise with the electricity, pipeborne water, toilet facilities and common telephone facilities. Within six months the NHDA has completed the construction work of this estate apartment housing scheme. Based on the experience on the above programme, the NHDA plans to implement the same housing programme in the other estate areas. |
