Triumphant Sri Lankan women Cricketers return The Sri Lanka women's cricket team led by Suthershini Sivanantham returned home after a very successful tour of West Indies. Of the six International matches played, Sri Lanka won all. The visitors who won their last match stunningly, were able to clinch it by 7 wickets. From the beginning the West Indies were not match for the Lankan girls as they struggled to keep pace with them. Sivanantham led from the front and was able to capture 15 wickets at an average of 11.6 and the best being 3 for 8. The highest scorer of the series was Wasanthi Ratnayaka at 161 runs averaging at 32.2. She was closely followed by Hiruka Fernando who averaged 38.5 for her 154 runs not out. Hiruka's highest score was 42. This tour yielded a bright young cricketer for the impending World Cup, in the form of 17 year old Shashikala Siriwardena. The girls will have a rest before they face a visiting Indian team. |
