Navin and Tehani win Austasia open titles by Chris Dhambarage Top seeds Navin Samarasinghe and Tehani Guruge clinched the men's and women's title respectively at the Austasia open squash tournament conducted by the Sri Lanka Squash Federation and worked of at the Austasia Sports Complex, Thalawathugoda. In the men's final Samarasinghe beat Anura Hewage in straight sets 9-3, 9-7, 9-6 and in the women's final Guruge had the better of Kushani Daluwatte in a four setter 9-1, 5-9, 9-6, 10-8. In the men's over 35 final E. Ravichandran defeated R. S. Deen 9-5, 10-9, 9-2. In the men's over 45 final Sarath Jayawardena beat Lakdasa Cooray 9-4, 9-5, 9-5. Tehani Guruge also took the girls under 19 title overcoming her sister Nihara Guruge 9-4, 9-4, 9-4 in the final. The boys under 19 title went to Harin Perera who beat Seshan Zahir 9-4, 9-4, 9-4. Nirasha Guruge won the girls under 17 title with a 9-1, 9-1, 9-7 win over Vidushi Gurunada in the final. Yassir Issadeen clinched the boys under 17 title defeating M. B. Marambe 9-2, 9-0, 9-2 in the final. Randima Ranaweera took the girls under 15 title with a convincing 9-3, 9-5, 9-7 win over Ashani Weerawardena. In the boys under 15 final Eranga Alwis trounced M. B. Marambe 9-1, 9-4, 9-0. Charindri Jayaratne took the girls under 13 title with a 9-0, 9-4, 9-2 win over Sharya Guruge in the final. However Sharya Guruge annexed the girls under 11 title overcoming Heshanie Ganegoda 9-0, 9-0, 9-0. In the boys under 13 final Praveen Perera beat Binura Jayasuriya 9-4, 3-9, 9-3, 9-2 and in the boys under 11 final Binura Jayasuriya defeated Gihan Suwaris 9-1, 9-6, 9-0. |
