Pakistan will not pull out of Sharjah tournament KARACHI, Tuesday (Reuters) - Pakistan will not pull out of next month's triangular tournament in Sharjah despite the withdrawal of South Africa for safety reasons. "Pakistan has no plans to pull out of the tournament even though we have been informed by the organisers that South Africa has withdrawn its team because of the Iraq war," Pakistan cricket board (PCB) spokesman Samiul Hasan told Reuters. South Africa withdrew from the triangular series because of fears for player safety following the outbreak of war in Iraq. South Africa calls off Sharjah tour JOHANNESBURG, Tuesday (AFP) - South Africa has called off its cricket tour to Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, due to safety concerns over the US-led war in Iraq, a news report said Monday. "We value our players and officials and we cannot continue with the tour when there is concern about their safety," said UCB chief executive officer Gerald Majola. "We received an advisory from the Department of Foreign Affairs informing us not to travel to the Gulf region under the current circumstances prevailing there," the SAPA news agency quoted him as saying. |
