Donor countries eagerly awaiting peace - Imtiasz

by Addalaichenai group correspondent

"Donor countries are eagerly awaiting Sri Lanka's Peace to pour their assistance to develop the war-torn North Eastern Provinces. So it is our bounden duty to contribute our shares to bring permanent peace in Sri Lanka.

So said Minister of Mass Communication Imtiasz Bakeer Markar after opening a 'Communication Locale' at the Post Office's building in Pottuvil.

Minister Imtiasz Bakeer Markar was the chief guest at the ceremonial opening of the communication locale and declared open the communication locale.

Minister of Highways and Eastern Transport ALM Athaullah and MP for Digamadulla District M.B.A. Azeez (SLMC) were also present.

The Minister said "Today the 56th 'Communication Locale' is being opened at Pottuvil which has been a longfelt need of the people of the area. This would pave the way for the villagers in the vicinity to communicate with their relatives living in the rest of the world. These facilities were made possible as the UNP Government were given a chance to rule the country. When we took over the Government the Treasury was almost empty and now we have built the economy. The war will lead only to death and destruction of our beautiful island.

Nothing can be achieved through war. Thousands of our people have evacuated from their own houses and living in southern part of Sri Lanka, as refugees. For how long we can go on like this? Hence, I appeal to all to extend your support to bring peace in the country."
