Govt condemns attack on Chinese vessel

The government last night issued a strong condemnation of the attack on a Chinese owned fishing vessel which resulted in the deaths of seven Chinese and two Sri Lankans on March 20 in the seas off Mullaitivu which it called "unprovoked."

"The government of Sri Lanka extends it's deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of those whose lives were lost," the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

It added that the government will continue to extend all possible assistance to the victims of the attack and is making arrangement for medical attention and for their return to China.
