No change in Qatar Airways schedule

Qatar Airways continues to safely operate its normal scheduled services to Europe, the Gulf, the Indian sub continent, and the Far East since the outbreak of war in Iraq.

Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said in a press release that Qatar Airways was the first Gulf airline to recommence services into Kuwait City on Friday, after Kuwait airport was closed for most of the day on Thursday. "Qatar Airways continues to fly to our destinations across the globe, on time, and with viable loads," said Al Baker.

"We are committed to maintaining our schedules and meeting the travel needs of our customers. "We are also very committed to their safety. Passenger safety is our top priority.

Qatar Airways was the first regional airline to fly into Kuwait when the airport re-opened last Friday," he said.

SriLankan Airlines to resume flights to Kuwait

SriLankan Airlines will resume flights to Kuwait today. "Flights were temporarily suspended with the outbreak of war in Iraq," said SriLankan's Head of Commercial G. T. Jeyaseelan. "The situation is now conducive to our resuming operations." Flight timings of the Dubai and Kuwait flights have been revised and are as follows:

SriLankan Airlines flight UL 227 will leave Colombo at 1300 hours and arrive in Dubai at 1530 hours. The flight will leave Dubai at 1615 hours and arrive in Kuwait at 1700 hours.

The return flight UL228 will leave Kuwait at 1800 hours and arrive in Dubai at 2050 hours. The flight will leave Dubai at 2300 hours and arrive in Colombo at 0515 hours the next day.

The revised timings will prevail till Friday, March 28, when new timings will be published. Jeyaseelan said that operations to Kuwait are subject to review based on any developments in the Middle East.

"The situation is being monitored on a 24-hour basis to ensure the safety of our passengers and crew," he said.

SriLankan Airlines passengers travelling to Kuwait are requested to contact the airline's reservations office on 421161, 073 3344 or 073 5500 before leaving for the airport.

Bourse drops further

The Colombo Bourse dropped further yesterday with the ASPI decreasing to 712.6 points from 713.7 and the Milanka index to 1,199.8 points from 1,200.9.

The turnover was Rs. 15.96 million, down from Rs. 19.67 million the previous day.

The number of shares traded was 761,210, a slight increase from the previous day and total total trades were 412. The top five gainers were Vanik Incorp, Lanka Ashok, Overseas Reality, Royal Palms and Kahawatte.

Ceylon Glass announced a 13% interim dividend and Hunter and Company announced a rights issue in the proportion of five for one.
