7 bodies from sunken Chinese trawler found

by Ranil Wijayapala

A total of seven bodies of the 17 missing crew members of the sunken Chinese fishing trawler were found by last noon as they washed ashore to several areas in the Eastern coast of Point Pedro, Military Spokesman Brigadier Sanath Karunaratne said yesterday.

Troops found two bodies washed ashore to South of Point Pedro last morning and another body later in the day the spokesman added. These bodies were handed over to the Police to be handed over respective authorities.

Four bodies were found in the same area on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the truce monitors investigating into the incident have recorded a statement from the Sea Tigers in Kilinochchi on Sunday, SLMM Deputy Chief Hagrup Haukland told the Daily News yesterday.

He said the LTTE has denied any involvement in the incident, but the SLMM has obtained a statement in this regard. An internal report regarding the inquiry will be prepared by this Wednesday and the complete report will be issued by March 28, the latest, Haukland added.
