The People's Alliance yesterday said US President George W. Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair were "war criminals" after the launch of military strikes on Iraq. "Bush and Blair have become war criminals by their action of going to war without United Nations approval," Tissa Vitharana, spokesman for the main opposition People's Alliance, told reporters shortly after US-led strikes began. "This is a crime against humanity. Please allow the United Nations to function," said Alavi Moulana, another PA stalwart. The opposition urged Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's government to make its stand known on the war on Iraq. "The Government should not help US forces in any way," Vitharana said. |
