Nalaka leads rugby team to Hong Kong sevens Dependable back division player Nalaka Weerakkdy has been picked to captain Sri Lanka at the Hong Kong International Rugby Sevens to be worked off in Hong Kong later this month. The appointment of Weerakkody as captain was exclusively stated in these columns a few weeks ago. This is the first time that dependable Kandy SC full back Weerakkody has been appointed to lead the national team. Over the years, Weerakkody has been a regular member of both the Sri Lanka Sevens team and Rugby Union Test team, representing the team with distinction. The others included in the 12-member team for the Hong Kong International Sevens on March 29 and 30 are Indrajith Bandaranayake, Sajith Mallikarachchi, Radhika Hettiarachchi, Asanga Rodrigo, M.C.Fernando, Lakala Perera, Lalindra Rodrigo, Sumedha Jayasinghe, P.Kumara, D.Vidanage and M.Liyanage. Former Sri Lanka captain Sanjeewa Jayasinghe has not been included in the team as he is still nursing injury. The Lankan team, managed by Chaminda Rupasinghe, will be coached by Asanga Seneviratne. Some of the top teams in the World circuit will compete at the Hong Kong International Sevens. (D.W.). |
