Suffering Jayasuriya in the wars again EAST LONDON, South Africa, Thursday, (Reuters) - Sanath Jayasuriya is suffering from tonsillitis but will be available for Sri Lanka's final World Cup Super Six game against Zimbabwe on Saturday. Opening batsman and captain Jayasuriya, who has also been taking pain killers for a bruised forearm and a chipped thumb bone, sat out training on Thursday. Sri Lanka manager Ajit Jayasekera said: "We didn't want him to exert himself because he is recovering from a severe attack of tonsillitis. "He is currently taking antibiotic injections twice a day. "It started on the day of the India match (March 10), we had to call a doctor and he took an injection that morning before the game. "We do expect him to be available for Saturday's game." Sri Lanka may already be out of the tournament by then if New Zealand beat India at Centurion on Friday. If New Zealand lose, Sri Lanka can reach the final four by beating the Zimbabweans. Jayasuriya fractured his left thumb at the tip and hurt his forearm when he was hit by strike bowler Brett Lee in last week's Super Six defeat against Australia. He played with the injury against India three days later but could not stop his side losing by 183 runs. |
