PM visits Central Region Development Ministry

by Sigiriya Group Correspondent

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who was instrumental in setting up five economic zones in the country paid his first official visit to the Central Region Development Ministry in Kandy yesterday morning.

The Prime Minister was received by the Minister of Central Region Development, Tissa Attanayake, Minister of Science and Technology, Keheliya Rambukwella, Central Province Chief Minister, W. M. P. B. Dissanayake and Mayor of Kandy, Kesara Senanayake.

At a press conference held after the Premier's visit, Minister Tissa Attanayake said Kandy has to undergo a restructuring programme so as to uphold its religious and historical significance.

He said many offices, departments and the prison are congested obliterating the congenial atmosphere of the town. Attanayake said the restructuring is a concept of the Prime Minister himself.

The Minister said a committee to go into the matter has been already appointed under the chairmanship of Ananda Weeraratne who has been asked to submit a report on the matter before April.
