Udatalwinna murder case : Court directs Magistrate to take notebook to custody

by Kumar Wethasinghe

High Court Judge Eric Basnayake, President of the Trial at Bar hearing the Udatalawinna mass murder case yesterday directed the Kandy Magistrate to order the Registrar M/C to immediately visit the Doragamuwa residence of Police witness Nilmini Gunasekara, and take his 'pocket notebook' into courts custody and produce it before the Trial at Bar at Hulfstsdorp.

The order of the court was sequel to an application by the Deputy Solicitor General Palitha Fernando, requesting court to take appropriate measures to protect the notebook, left behind at his Doragamuwa home, in order to avoid any blame that the prosecution failed to protect and produce the same. Earlier, during cross examination of the witness the Counsel for Defence Tirantha Walaliyadde challenged the State to produce the 'pocket notebook' of the witness, PC Nilmini Gunasekera.
