Technical delegation to Pakistan to finalise FTA

A technical delegation headed by Actg. Director of Commerce Manel De Silva will leave for Islamabad on Sunday to finalise the product list of the much-waited FTA with Pakistan.

The delegation includes officials from the Department of Commerce, General Treasury, Sri Lanka Tea Board, Ministry of Enterprise Development Industrial Policy and Investment Promotions, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock who will participate in the technical sessions on March 18 and 19 on finalising the product lists of which was the crucial barrier in finalising the FTA.

Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Ravi Karunanayake is expected to visit Islamabad early next month to sign the FTA with his Pakistani counterpart.

The Sri Lanka Pakistan FTA was scheduled to be finalised early this year, but was postponed several times due to the political situation in Pakistan after the change of Government.
