Minister to meet Senate of Bhikshu varsity

by Manjula Fernando

Education Minister Dr. Karunasena Kodituwakku will meet senate members of the Buddhashravaka Bhikshu University this week in a bid to resolve the current crisis that had led to its closure, an Education Ministry spokesman said yesterday.

The students of the university are demanding the removal of the present Vice-Chancellor whom they allege is responsible for the downfall of its administration and academic activities.

The meeting is to be made following a pledge by the Minister to student bhikkus who held a protest campaign in front of the Education Ministry last week.

In a bid to settle the issue which had crippled all functions of the university, the Minister recently appointed a committee chaired by Chief Incumbent Ven. Bellanwila Wimalaratana Thera to look into the problem. Although its report was handed over to the Minister a few days back the issue still remains unresolved.

The Minister was to meet the senate members last Sunday but was later postponed. According to the spokesman the meeting is expected to take place today.
