News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Postal service wont be privatised - Bakeer Markar by Deraniyagala roving correspondent The Minister of Mass Communication Imitiaz Bakeer Markar said at a meeting that the postal service would not be privatised and its losses will be reduced gradually. He also promised to modernise the Postal Service. He said so at a meeting held at the opening of the Communication Locale (Teleshop) at the Deraniyagala Post office premises. The Minister also said that the UNF Government has overcome many of the losses due to the mismanagement of the previous government. He went onto say that he will look into the request of the Samurdhi Minister R. A. D. Sirisena about streamlining of the delivery of letters to the estate workers and that the post office would be a boon to Deraniyagala. He said that the teleshop will benefit 3600 school children who would be able to buy their school requirements from the teleshop at reduced rates. He also stated that the 80 per cent of the electricity requirements have been solved and a massive development scheme has been initiated to uplift the quality of life. Samurdhi Minister R. A. D. Sirisena said, within one year of coming to power the UNF government has achieved many a success. The Garment Factory in Deraniyagala is the pride of this town as it had provided several youth employment. The Teleshop, he said will benefit 3600 school children who can buy their school requirements here at cheap rates. In Deraniyagala electorate the Samurdhi Minister said eight per cent of the electricity requirement has been solved. He also said a massive development scheme has been initiated to uplift the quality of life of people here. Sixty houses have been constructed at Rathnagama in the Dehiowita Divisional Secretariat area. These houses will receive Rs. 12,000 each for sanitary facilities. An Agriculture Village at Basnagala with 25 houses aided by the Chinese Government which offers a grant of Rs. 100,000 for each house will be set up. He also detailed the Various Development Projects in the Electorate. He appealed to the Minister to effect direct delivery of letters to estate workers to their houses. W. M. Piyasena, Post-master General, described in detail the service of the Communication Locale (teleshop). P. M. Hemachandra, PC member Sabaragamuwa Province made the welcome speech and said that the UNP is the only government which respected the rights of the minorities. |
