Highest Japanese honour for Lankan industrialist by Sarath Malalasekera Dayasiri Warnakulasuriya was felicitated recently at the Trans Asia Hotel on his recent decoration of "The Order of the Sacred Treasure Gold Rays with Rosette," an honour bestowed upon him by the Emperor of Japan. The Japan-Sri Lanka Technical and Cultural Association (JASTECA) Vice Patron Lal de Alwis said that this was in recognition of Dayasiri's outstanding contribution to fosterfriendship and goodwill between the people of Japan and Sri Lanka. The felicitation dinner was hosted by JASTECA. JASTECAs' President Berty Kulatillake said that Dayasiri is a well-known figure and as a pioneer industrialist in the ceramics sector having established his 100% export business in the ceramics industry "Midaya Ceramic Company Limited" in Homagama, a couple of decades ago. Since then, Dayasiri, has diversified his activities to other areas in ceramics and packaging. He is also an active Rotarian. The JASTECA President said that the decoration conferred on Dayasiri by the Emperor of Japan and the people of Japan is not for being a Rotarian, industrialist or a philanthropist, but for his exceptional contribution towards the promotion of friendship and goodwill between the people of Sri Lanka and Japan. Dayasiri has spent a number of years of his youth in Japan and acquired not only the Japanese mannerisms and lifestyle but a partner -Setsuko- for life as well. The Order of the Sacred treasure Gold Rays with Rosette is the highest honour any non national civilian can receive from the Emperor of Japan, Kulatilleka said. |
