Novel program to improve rural economy - Bandula

The present UNF government is moving step by step on the correct path to peace while restoring the bankrupt economy of this country, said the Minister of Rural Economy and the Deputy Minister of Finance, Bandula Gunawardena.

He was speaking at a meeting of Small-Scale Entrepreneurs of the Ambagamuwa Korale in the Nuwara Eliya district held at the new conference hall in Ginigathena recently.

The Minister said that when the present UNF government came into power, the economy of this country had collapsed.

He said that Ranil Wickremesinghe is the only Prime Minister of this country who created a separate Ministry of Rural Economy for the benefit of the rural people of this island.

The Minister said the government has launched a novel program to improve the rural economy of this country through the new ministry.

He said as the rural people were badly affected due to the lack of a market for selling of their products, his Ministry of Rural Economy would take steps to set up a purchasing unit for the rural products.

The Minister said that the proposed purchasing unit when commissioned would greatly benefit the rural people to sell their different products at a higher price.

He said that the government cannot quickly solve the unemployment problem that it is compelled to face today but hoped to tackle the unemployment problem gradually by improving the economic standard of the island.
