Minister's complaint against commissioner : AG to advice on officer statements

by Sarath Malalasekera

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probing the complaint made by Agriculture and Samurdhi Minister S.B. Dissanayake against a Commissioner of the Bribery and Corruption Department said yesterday that they had forwarded the statements of the two officers, Peter Gunatilleke and Sarath Nandasena of the same Department, to the Attorney General to obtain his advice.

Earlier, the CID forwarded the statement of Kingsley Wickremasuriya, a member of the Bribery and Corruption Commission Department to the Attorney General.

The CID was brought into the matter when Interior and Christian Affairs Minister John Amaratunge forwarded a letter sent to him by Agriculture and Samurdhi Minister S.B. Dissanayake alleging that Wickremasuriya had violated secrecy clauses of the Commission.

Minister Dissanayake alleged that the Commissioner met President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga with details of an investigation into Samurdhi funds, along with the two officers attached to the Bribery Commission.
