Peace process is on the correct path - Minister Podinilame

by Kegalle special correspondent

The United National Front "Balamandalaya" of Yatiyanthota electorate held a meeting at Siriwardhana Maha Vidyalaya at Yatiyantota.

This meeting was presided over by the chief organiser of the UNP of Yatiyantota constituency, Sujith Sanjeewa Perera.

Kegalle District Parliamentarians Jayatilake Podinilame and Samurdhi Minister R. A. D. Sirisena and Pradeshiya Sabha members of Yatiyanthota Electorate participated in it.

Wayamba Development Minister Jayatilake Podinilame said that since the advent of the United Front Administration the parliamentarians of all electorates were provided with a grant of Rs. 5 million each to attend to the development activities of respective constituencies, and that this Rs. 5 million is provided to both government and opposition members equally well.

Minister Podinilame said, that this example should be adopted and implemented by the Pradeshiya Sabhas too, as today a Pradeshiya Sabha member of the opposition is provided with only Rs. 500,000 which is insufficient. This difference shall be erased off soon, he said.

He mentioned, the United National Front was elected to govern this country by the masses. Therefore, the trust and confidence the voters kept in us should be preserved. However, we inherited from the PA Government a bankrupted treasury and we had to struggle and strive hard to find monies to execute a number of plans mooted by this government to solve the burning problems of the country which we inherited from the previous regime. However, now we are ready to face these problems and solve those soon, Minister Podinilame emphasised.

We are on the correct path today with regard to the peace process. We are now on the threshold of winning peace for the whole country which will result in development and progress everywhere. So many countries have agreed to provide aid and assistance in the sphere of development and this will result employment opportunities for many thousands in this year itself soon.

In addition to these, in two weeks time we will be providing employment for 10,000 graduates, almost immediately and also we look forward to pay Rs. 3,000 for each graduate until such time, they find employment either in state service or in the private sector here or in foreign lands, and that such arrangements are being looked into.

Very soon youths corps will start functioning and 250 youths from each electorate will be selected initially and this alone will provide employment to a large number of youths alone, Minister Podinilame said. Samurdhi Minister R. A. D. Sirisena said that whole Yatiyanthota electorate will be provided with electricity, and foreign aid has been received to commence a number of projects to harness electricity, and that Rs. 300 million has already been paid in this regard to commence work.

Minister Sirisena said that in certain instances we get delayed in implementing programs owing to difference of opinion of the government and the President as power rests on two sides, as the Legislative powers with the government and the Executive powers with the President. All these shall be sorted out to implement our people-friendly programs, Minister Sirisena said.

Chief Organiser of Yatiyanthota Electorate Sanjaya Sujith Perera, PS Chairman Rohitha Kumara and several others addressed the meeting.
