Events to mark International Women's Day

Shrama Abimani Women's Organisation (SAWO) of Gampaha and the Lions Club of Negombo have organised a series of events to commemorate International Women's day, today 3 p.m. onwards at the Negombo Town Hall.

The events include the donation of spectacles and arranging loans for women to start self-employment projects with the assistance of the Wayamba Development Bank. Loans will be given up to Rs. one hundred thousand. In addition Sri Lanka Milk Foods will provide milk for 50 sick mothers for a period of one year.

The organisation will also open savings accounts for mothers of disabled children by providing them with a initial deposit and will introduce a system to provide cut pieces of garments for women to start self employment projects.

According to Nalini Karunaratne President SAWO the organisation is only confined to Gampaha district and they are now preparing to open branches in other areas.
