The National games festival will be held in Jaffna. Five thousand athletes will participate in the festival from different parts of our country.

" Their participation will foster a feeling of brotherhood, inter communal understanding and harmony, I call upon every citizen of Jaffna to participate in this festival and build communal harmony" said the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Johnston Fernando.

He was speaking at a meeting held in the Jaffna secretariat presided by Pathiniammah Tillaganayagam Paul, Addl. Government Agent for Jaffna.

Fernando further said that in order to develop sports eight Sports Training centres will be opened in eight districts. To start with seven sports officers will be appointed in Jaffna.

He said a Sports training centre will be opened at Duraiappa Stadium, Jaffna on April 10 with all modern facilities. The approved sport clubs will be granted Rs. 50.000 to develop their activities.

He pointed out that waging war is easy but to bring the warring parties together and forge peace between them is a more difficult task.
