Guard knocked out as illegal migrants flee Australian detention camp SYDNEY, Feb 14 (AFP) - An Australian security guard was beaten unconscious during a breakout by nine illegal immigrants from a detention centre here, officials said Friday. The nine detainees, all said to be Asian males, broke out of Sydney's Villawood detention centre early Friday by cutting a hole in the perimeter centre. Police superintendent Mick Plotecki said five were captured within a short distance of the detention centre as they made for a nearby train station and a sixth shortly afterwards. A hunt by 30 police with tracker dogs was continuing Friday for the remaining three escapees, but police said they were confident of catching them quickly. The Immigration department said a seurity officer was assaulted during the escape, knocked unconsvious and been taken to Liverpool Hospital. |
