'Manilal's resignation will not be accepted' by Sunil Abeywardena The President of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) DIG Gamini Randeniya said that he will not accept the resignation of Manilal Fernando who has decided to quit from all offices that he is holding in the FFSL. DIG Randeniya said that Manilal Fernando is an influential person in the FFSL and who has done tremendous work in the past to uplift the standard of the game. Sri Lanka has received and is continuing to receive plenty of foreign assistance from FIFA because of the influence of Manilal Fernando who is the vice president of the Asian Football Confederation. In addition Fernando has been appointed by FIFA as a member of the Development Committee for Asia, in which 12 countries come under his care. He is also in the Players Status Committee of FIFA and is also FIFA's Goal Project man here. Fernando is also chairman of the Finance Committee of AFC, and member of its Rules and Constitution Committee. DIG Randeniya said that ''The Football House'' at Reid Avenue, the youth football complex at Kotte are some of Manilal's efforts who also finance the Sri Lanka under 13, under 15 and under 17 squads. Randeniya added that his committee will be meeting on Sunday for a further discussion regarding the resignation. |
