PA-JVP talks continue

by Ranga Jayasuriya.

The People's Alliance and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna will hold another round of talks aimed at forming an alliance today, party sources told the Daily News.

Following the talks held last week, both parties said the "greater part" of the project plan for the possible alliance had been agreed.

The plan named "Proposals to Rebuild the Nation" presented by the JVP focuses on the solution to the ethnic conflict and economic strategies.

President Kumaratunga will lead the PA delegation comprising General Secretary D.M.Jayaratne, SLFP General Secretary Maithripala Sirisena, Sarath Amunugama and Nimal Siripala de Silva for the talks with the JVP delegation comprising General Secretary Tylvin Silva, Propaganda secretary Wimal Weerawansa and Anura Dissanayake.

Both parties described last week's talks as "extremely fruitful" expressing optimism that a final deal on the alliance could be sealed "very soon".
