Gunawardhane, Matara Central correspondent Making a statement to the "Daily News" Assistant Tea Commissioner, Matara revealed that a loss of Rupees 3,000 million a year is caused due to the bad packing in air-free bags and haphazard transport of harvested green tea leaf. To avoid this situation several seminars - for tea smallholders and others involved in the trade have been conducted within the district, during the past few months. A series of further seminars for members of factory staff will be conducted, he said. With the aid provided by the Asian Development Bank, a scheme will be drawn up to release loans to those in need of financial aid to go ahead with providing required know-how and suitable gear for packing and transport of harvested green leaf. Any information in this regard could be obtained from the office of the Asst. Tea Commissioner's office, Matara, he said in conclusion. |
