Centre for individuals with disabilities

As part of its continuing commitment to human resource development and training the North East Provincial Department of Industries has opened a training and employment assessment centre for individuals with disabilities at the vocational training centre premises at Uppuveli, Trincomalee.

This centre has been developed in recognition of and in response to the increasing need for specific and targeted support and services to be available to individuals with disabilities.

The primary objective of the centre is to assess the abilities, strengths and needs of individuals with disabilities who wish to enter employment or training. This centre will develop programs and explore opportunities to enable individuals with disabilities to participate.

This centre is also committed for raising awareness within industry of the capacity of individuals with disabilities to actively contribute to the local community.

The centre recognises the rights of individuals with disabilities and will actively work towards promoting equal opportunities for every individual irrespective of their differences.

This centre is opened to individuals with physical, visual auditory, communication, learning cognitive or mental health related disabilities who are interested in training and employment.
