Three Korale will be made a development zone: Minister

by Avissawella group correspondent

The Three Korale and Avissawella will be made a development zone and the pomp and glory of the Seetavaka Kingdom will be restored. A record of all places of historical and archaeological importance useful for youth will also be compiled, said Dr. Karunasena Kodituwakku, Minister of Human Resources Development Education and Cultural Affairs.

Speaking at the inter house sports meet of Seetavaka Madhya Maha Vidyalaya at the college grounds, Avissawella, the Minister said he visited places of historical importance in the Seetavaka Kingdom with MP Jayanta Ketagoda and Archaeological Department officers recently and decided to prepare a history of these places, because Seetavaka Kingdom holds a prominent place in Sri Lanka.

He said Seetavaka Rajasingha was a warrior who defeated the Portuguese and had a proud record in the history of Seetavaka.

Dr. Kodituwakku said King Rajasinghe had a dispute with Buddhist monks and historians expressed different views about him.

He said Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is interested in making these areas a development zone. The Minister said he hoped to develop all schools and promote the education standard.

The Provincial Councils which entertained politics into the administration, appointed unsuitable persons to schools and departments. This resulted in a break down in the management which deteriorated the education, Dr. Kodituwakku said.

He said teachers must receive a subject knowledge and extra curricular knowledge. "They must be well disciplined and trained," the Minister said.

He said he will visit this school again and see what he could do for its development.

The Minister said children are our assets and is our duty to educate them and make good citizens.

Colombo district MP Jayanta Ketagoda and Seetavakapura Urban Council member Dushmanta Gunawardana also spoke. Principal K. L. Dharmadasa Karandana delivered the welcome speech.

Seetavakapura Urban Council Chairman K. D. P. Arsakularatna participated.
