NSB nets Rs. 67m in deposits at branch opening by A.H.M. Farook The National Savings Bank (NSB) for the first time in its history recorded Rs. 67 million in deposits on the first day when a branch was opened last Friday at the Meegoda Economic Centre. When we opened a branch at a new place like this, we never thought that the deposits on the opening day would reach this record figure. It has gone up beyond our expectations, an official of the NSB said. This branch provides all the normal facilities for businessmen who call at this trade centre on a 24-hour service basis, the official added. Other banks including the People's Bank and Seylan Bank have also opened their branches to provide banking facilities for businessmen at this centre. It was opened by Power and Energy Minister Karu Jayasuriya. Deputy Finance Minister Bandula Gunawardene was present. Local farmers are expected to get a better price for their produce in this wholesale market. The centre which cost Rs. 70 million is the second of its kind in Sri Lanka. The first Economic Centre is at Dambulla in the North Central Province. |
