Twenty four teams for "Pulsar" trophy

Twenty four teams pooled into 04 groups will engage in 67 matches from early March to end June 2003 to grab the brand new "Pulsar" trophy presented for the MCA Division "E" 40 overs League Tournament.

David Pieris Motor Co. has retained the sponsorship for the second year running. DPMC scored a double last year by sponsoring and winning the tournament.

Among the 24 teams in the fray there are 08 new comers into this division, Commercial Bank "B", SriLankan Catering Services, James Finlay, Ernest & Young, HVA Lanka Exports, Rogers Group & Upali Group (all promoted from "F" Division) & Hilton Colombo (down from "D" Division).

The other 16 teams, retained in this division are, Arpico SC "B", Abans Group, Ansell Lanka, Taj Airport Garden Hotel, C. W. Mackie, Coats Thread Lanka, Dimo, Eagle Insurance, HSBC "A", Hemas Group, SriLankan Airlines "B", Informatics, Lanka Bell, Maliban Group, Regnis Lanka & Lake House.

At completion of the round-robin, which contains 60 matches, the two top teams of the four groups will quality for the knock-out stage, which will feature 07 matches including the final.

Special awards for the Best Batsman and Best Bowler, based on performances in the league stage, and Man of the Final.

Match venues are, MCA, Castle Street, D. S. Senanayake College grounds, Wesley College grounds, St. Bendict's College grounds and Shalika grounds.

All the details was disclosed to the media at the official handing over of the sponsorship held at the MCA's new roof-top Board Room last Monday.

DPMC's Director Marketing, Jagath Kulatunge handed over the sponsorship cheque to the President of the MCA, Tyrone de Silva.

Executive Director, DPMC and Vice President MCA, Neil Perera spoke on behalf of the sponsors. Deputy General Manager, Ford & Bajaj, Rohana Dissanayake presented the "Pulsar" trophies.
