Library opening will go ahead - Jaffna Mayor by Jaffna special correspondent Jaffna Mayor Sellan Kandayan said yesterday that he would go ahead with the opening of the Jaffna library on Friday (14) as scheduled despite threats by various groups. Speaking at a public meeting in Jaffna, Kandayan said the government made a great effort to renovate the library. Councillors from all the parties have unanimously decided to open the library on Friday in spite of acts of intimidation. The Mayor is alleged to have been threatened with bodily harm by two members of a students union in Jaffna. The youths had allegedly gone to his home and warned him not to open the library on Friday. "We will not be intimidated by the threats. The public must cooperate with the council in this noble endeavour," the Mayor said.
