Dhammika buys 56.07% stake of Club Horizon Hotel

Investor Dhammika Perera yesterday purchased 56.07 percent stake of the Club Horizon Hotel, Koggala, a hotel owned by the Ruhunu Hotels and Travels Ltd. A share was priced at Rs. 4.25.

Following the deal, the 73-roomed hotel currently marketed by the Confifi Group will be managed by the Connaisance Group where Perera already has a 63 percent stake. Connaissance is another leading player in the leisure industry.

According informed sources, Chairman of Connaisance, Chandra Wickramasinghe is likely to be made the Chairman of this venture and Lalin Samarawickrama as the Executive Director. Harendra Perera, Anuradha Perera and Nimal Perera will be appointed to the board of directors. The Furkhan Family, the owners of Confifi Group also own 6 percent of the Club Horizon while Tea exporters - Dilmah has about 27 percent. "We are looking forward to work with them with their representatives on the Board," Perera's Fund Manager said.

"With the Connaisance exposure, we have realised that tourism is a lucrative sector to move into. The economy is picking up and tourist arrivals are encouraging. Therefore, we expect a boom in the hospitality industry," he said.

Connaissance Group owns two Hotels: Le Kandyan, Culture Club and manages several hotel properties in Unawatuna and Koggala. CJ
