Pioneering forays into Mideast markets

"One of the biggest fears of shippers is for their shipments not to reach the destination on time. We eliminate this fear," said Prasantha Dissanayake, Line Manager of Perma Container (UK) Line Ltd. What makes this possible, he explains, is the availability of fast and reliable connections.

"We have our own fleet of containers and agents in different locations in the Middle East and the Indian Sub-Continent with an efficient system to track our clients' cargo and protect their interests," he said. They have agents in Mumbai/Navasheva, New Delhi, Cochin, Colombo, Karachi, Iraq, Doha and Bahrain. Starting March 1, the company will also open its own Perma Container Line office in Iran. The company ships mainly to Iraq, Iran, CIS destinations, Afghanistan and the Indian Sub-Continent.

Expansion plans to the Far East are under way. The company experienced increased volumes last year, making them one of the largest carriers from Dubai to Iraq.

Perma Container (UK) Line are the pioneers in container services into Iraq and have been enjoying continued success with a growing client base, Dissanayake said.

After opening the Colombo and Cochin markets last year, they enjoyed tremendous success in these areas. In Colombo, they were the second-largest carrier in tonnage to Iraq, after entering the market for the first time. "Iraq is a tricky market with a lot of United Nations documentation and clearances involved, but being there for such a long time and our agents keeping a track of all movements, have given us the edge over our competitors," he said.

One-stop shop

Personalised services is what Perma promises to its clients, who are mainly importers and exporters. "We are a one-stop-shop for our clients as we take care of all the documentation and other services like transport, etc. We offer integrated shipping solutions," Dissanayake said.

"With our own office in Iran shortly, we are adding the port of Khorram Shahr, in addition to Bandar Abbas in that area and we will offer all destinations in Iran.

"As our head office is based in Dubai, which is a shipping hub, we have priority connections to Iraq and Iran with fixed sailing times weekly.

"Within such a short span of time, the company has grown steadily and we are grateful to our clients for this success. We are a company with no limits to solutions and assure our clients that their cargo will have a smooth sailing with Perma," Dissanayake said.
