Stable economy Govt's aim, says Minister

by P. Rajaratnam in Nuwara Eliya

The Government's aim is to build a stable economy through development activities, said R. A. D. Sirisena, Minister of Samurdhi Development.

Speaking at a UNP convention at the Town Hall, Nuwara Eliya recently, he spelled out the UNP and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's principles.

Prime Minister Wickremesinghe is not only considered a leader of a particular party. He is also an international figure among all nations, the Minister said.

He said the President's attempts to woo the ruling party members within the Parliament had failed.

The Minister said there were some people who wanted to sabotage the peace process which was a national tragedy.

Taking into account the PA's several set backs, it is positive that the President will never dissolve Parliament, Sirisena said.

UNP secretary Senerath Kapukotuwa said the UNP firmly believes in discipline and unity.

The party and the leadership expects members and others to be disciplined and united, he said.

Kapukotuwa said although the cost of living was high, the Government will bring it down soon with assistance from international donor countries.

Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries Navin Dissanayake was also present.
