by Jaffna special correspondent Minister of Hindu Affairs T. Maheswaran has allocated his entire allocation of Rs. 50 lakhs in the decentralised budget for the modernisation of the emergency surgical theatre at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital. Approval for this allocation was made at the District Development Committee (DDC) held at the Jaffna Secretariat. Maheswaran and V. Anandasangary MP presided at the meeting. Seven million rupees have been approved for development works to be undertaken by the Ministry of Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Refugees in Jaffna. The major development projects to be undertaken are (a) Rs. 50 lakhs for Rehabilitation of open theatre in Jaffna, (b) Rs. 70 lakhs for reconstructing of Kalviyankaddu general market, (c) Rs. 43 lakhs to build a shopping complex at Kodikamam and Rs. 75 lakhs for infrastructure works at Maruthankerni AGAs office. The allocation of funds in the decentralised budget for the nine Members of Parliament, Jaffna district was taken up and approved at the meeting. The Members of Parliament present at the meeting complained that the quality of rice issued in Jaffna to the people below the poverty line is of sub-standard and country rice should be distributed. They also alleged that commodities sent to Jaffna by the Ministry of Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Refugees are found to be of underweight or pilfered in transit. |
