Razik in Kandy The Central Range Special Investigation Unit filed plaint in the Kandy Magistrate's court on Wednesday charging an ex-reserve police constable with three counts including attempting to cheat the DIG Central Range. The accused is Don Aruna Ratnayake alias Ratnayake Mudiyansalage Ajith Ratnayake alias Anuruddha Bandara Ratnayake alias Ruwan Lakshman Bandara of Dambulla Road, Habarana. He is charged with preparing forged documents, attempting to cheat the DIG Central Range by forwarding the forged documents to the DIG and posing as an Assistant Superintendent of Police on February 14, last year. According to the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), the accused is alleged to have prepared a forged document on a letterhead carrying the emblem of Prime Minister's office and forged signature of the Prime Minister. He is also alleged to have forwarded the forged documents by post to DIG Central Range. The forged letter orders the DIG to transfer several policemen of Nawalapitiya police station to police stations in other ranges. The counsel for the accused informed court that the father of the accused (surety of the accused) is present in court and the accused is on remand in connection with several cases. SI J. M. Sirisena of the SIU, who filed the plaint, told court that there are 13 witnesses and four productions in the case. Kandy Magistrate D. L. M. Seneviratne put off the case for July 9 as the accused was not present in court. |
